Juan Carlos Mortensen was born on April 13, 1972 in Ambato in Ecuador is a professional poker player known as "El Matador" Mortensen was the first Latin American to win a WSOP Main Event at age 29.
It was in 1997 while working as a bartender in Madrid which was presented to Mortensen Poker, its optimum performance in the poker tables of the Spanish capital led him to quit his job to concentrate on the game.
In May 2001 when he resided in the United States won the main event World Series of Poker, beating Dewey Tomko experienced heads-up final, then in 2003 won his second WSOP bracelet in Limit Hold'em. Already in 2004 he won his first tournament of the World Poker Tour!
In 2007 he won the World Poker Tour Championship, defeating Kirk Morrison, thereby becoming the first player to win the major tournaments of the WSOP and WPT
